Passenger Conduct

Labrador Marine Inc. is committed to a safe and respectful transportation service.  LMI reserves the right to refuse passage to anyone who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or whose conduct is unsafe, unlawful, or considered to be objectionable.

Any person who attempts to obtain passage fraudulently, refuses to pay the prescribed fare, or fails to produce proof of payment of fare upon request, may be refused passage.

Labrador Marine Inc. cannot provide direct supervision for children travelling alone. Children under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. A Guardian MUST be over the age of 18 years of age.

Labrador Marine Inc. has adopted a Passenger Protection Policy for our services. Please review it below.

Please be advised that non travelling persons are not permitted onboard to visit passengers who are travelling.

Passenger Protection Policy

Labrador Marine’s first priority is the safety and security of our passengers, crew and vessel. Our Passenger Protection Policy is in place to protect everyone’s safety and security. Passengers are expected to respect their fellow travellers and allow for their enjoyment onboard the vessel.

LMI has a policy of zero tolerance for behaviour that threatens or interferes with passengers or crew, or behaviour that threatens the safety of the vessel. Onboard crew will continuously monitor the vessel to ensure the LMI’s Passenger Protection Policy is followed.

Endangering the crew and passengers, or failure to follow instructions given by crew to ensure safety and security of all passengers, will result in a travel ban for the people involved. This means that once you reach your destination, you will not be permitted to get back onboard the vessel. Future boarding of the vessel will be denied.

Please respect the onboard rules and your fellow travellers.

Smoking Policy

Please note that smoking is not permitted on passenger ferries as per the provincial regulations.

Policy Regarding Alcohol, Cannabis and Other Drugs

Labrador Marine Inc. reserves the right to refuse passage to any person who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or whose conduct is unsafe, unlawful or considered to be objectionable. We also reserve the right to curb the use of alcohol, cannabis, or other illegal drugs onboard our vessels.  Consumption of alcohol onboard the vessel is prohibited.

This is to ensure the safety of all passengers onboard, including anyone who may become intoxicated and become injured. In the event a passenger has to be removed from the vessel due to activity as noted the RCMP will be called and the passenger removed at the first available port.

Pet Policy

There are 2 options available for pets onboard the vessel:

  • The pet can remain in the passenger’s vehicle during the voyage.
  • Pets can be accommodated in kennels provided on deck. The kennels are available “first-come, first-served”.

Passengers are responsible for ensuring their pets have food and water.

Passengers are not permitted to wait with or check on their animal, except during scheduled ferry stops.

To ensure safe travel passengers are recommended to ensure that pets vaccinations are up to date prior to travel and that pets are healthy to travel.

All pets must travel in kennels kept in designated areas.

LMI reserves the right to refuse to carry any pet that appears unwell or injured or not appropriately housed in a kennel.

Service Dogs

Service dogs must be accommodated as per the Accessibility Act.

The passenger must present documentation confirming that the service dog is certified to the Chief Officer at the time of boarding. This will allow access to the passenger deck and outside deck areas. If no documentation is provided the dog will be accommodated as a pet.

During the voyage certified service dogs must be on a leash.

Emotional Support Animals (ESA)

The Passenger must provide proof from a physician or medical health professional that they are being treated for a mental health disability and that they require an emotional support animal (ESA) to accommodate that disability. The passenger must present a veterinary certificate identifying the animal and the person with a disability. A veterinary certificate must be provided and include the following information:

  • Identifies the specific ESA by name and breed
  • Identifies the person with a disability who relies on that animal as an ESA
  • Attests that the ESA is healthy enough to travel; free of any contagious diseases, ticks and fleas; and current on its vaccinations
  • States whether the veterinarian has any knowledge of inappropriate behaviour exhibited by the ESA, including aggressive behavior, excessive whining or barking, or causing injury to others. If possible, the veterinary certification should be dated within two months prior to the date of initial travel set out in the itinerary
  • The ESA must fit comfortably in an appropriate animal carrier and remain in the carrier for the duration of the voyage.
